Diode Hair Removal is a laser hair removal technique that uses a diode laser to target and reduce unwanted hair. Results vary across skin types and hair colors: laser works most easily on dark hair and lighter skin, while darker skin needs extra care. The diode laser emits a specific wavelength of light that is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair follicles, where heat damages the follicle to reduce hair growth. Diode Hair Removal is commonly used to treat areas such as the face, legs, arms, underarms, bikini line, and back.
Diode Hair Removal works by utilizing a concentrated beam of light emitted from a diode laser. The laser light is absorbed by the melanin in the hair shaft and follicle, converting the light energy into heat. This heat damages the hair follicle at the root, reducing its ability to produce hair, though some hair can grow back.
A doctor assesses your skin type, hair color and medical history before any treatment plan is suggested. During the treatment, a cooling gel or device may be applied to the skin for comfort. The diode laser handpiece is then moved over the treatment area, delivering precise pulses of laser energy to the hair follicles.
Multiple treatment sessions are typically required to achieve optimal results, as hair grows in cycles and the laser is most effective on hair in the active growth phase (anagen). Sessions are spaced several weeks apart to target hair as it enters this phase.
Diode Hair Removal provides long-lasting results by targeting and destroying hair follicles, giving long-term hair reduction. Some hair can grow back finer and lighter, and maintenance sessions may be needed.
Results with a diode laser vary across skin tones and hair colors, with dark hair and lighter skin responding more readily. Darker skin needs extra care, while blonde, grey, white or red hair may respond less well.
Cooling devices or gels may help with comfort during treatment; afterwards, redness and swelling often look like a mild sunburn, and a cool compress can help. Most people return to everyday activities, but should keep the treated area out of the sun.
The diode laser targets hair follicles through heat absorbed by the pigment in the hair. Treatment time depends on the size of the area, from the upper lip to larger areas like the back or legs.
